The Versilia

 

Versilia is the name of the coastal area which goes from Viareggio to Forte dei Marmi and comprises Camaiore, Pietrasanta and of course, Forte dei Marmi.

With exception of Forte dei Marmi, which is on the sea, Camaiore offers  beaches  at Lido di Camaiore, while Marina di Pietrasanta at Focette,  Motrone, Tonfano and Fiumetto.

Famous for its long and gold beach, organized with beach facilities which are unique, the Versilia is not only a sea region. It offers also a beautiful countryside. Pietrasanta is the pearl of the inner countryside. It has been hosting for many years the ateliers of the most important  international sculptors like Vangi, Botero, Mitorai that are only some of the names of who have decided to spend much of their time in such a beautiful land which Michelangelo Buonarroti chose before them. The medieval centre offers art galleries, works of arts and restaurants.

Forte dei Marmi is instead the undisputed star of the coast. Luxury destination. Famous since the beginning of 1900, today it is visited by tourists from all over the world. Magnificente the great Roma Imperiale villas, many restaurants and famous brands shops.

Forte dei Marmi borders to the south with Marina di Pietrasanta from which it is divided by the bautiful Versiliana wood. To the North it borders with Cinquale, the sea village belonging to the community of Montignoso, in the province of Massa Carrara.

Viareggio is a nice sea small town with one of the most beautiful promenades of the worls, rich inLiberty style  buildings, beach facilities and villas . It owns a port which is is reached by the most beautifuls boats of the Mediterranean sea. It offers very good restaurants where, among other specialities, one can taste the typical Cacciucco and spaghetti alla trabaccolara.

Torre del Lago is famous thanks to its wild beaches and because it is very much preferred by the gay tourists.

The Riviera Apuana instead is the north border of the Versilia. The Apuane alps with their wonderful marble quarries are the frame of the long beaches of the Versilia and Riviera Apuana. Colonnata is a small village of marble workers. Famous fot its “lardo”. 

 Homeands of Malaspina, rich in castles and fortresses which arrive to the Lunigiana, Fosdinovo, Luni, Massa, Montignoso.

Among the gastronomic specialties you can taste the panigacc,i, the torta massese. The Lunigiana is famous for the Roman civilization memories and Luni. It is also production region of the  Fermentino di Luni, a great white wine.

Trekking on the Alpi Apuane, golf, tennis, and water sports. The Versilia and the Riviera Apuana are perfectly organized for any kind of sport.
