The Mugello valley is located in the heart of Tuscany, a few kilometres north of Florence.
The region, rich in history, art and tradition, is home of one of the most important Medici villas: the Castello di Cafaggiolo, situated near the Tuscan town Barberino di Mugello. Other important monuments are: Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia, a small town famous for the hand made knives production and above all for the Mugello Circuit which has been hosting for years the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix and the MotoGP. Not to be missed Villa Pecori Giraldi with its Chini Ceramics Museum. The Chini family, craftsmen and artists who realized among the many artistic works also the city hall of Borgo San Lorenzo, was one of the first to propose the Art Nouveau in Italy.
Absolutely to be visited are the Giotto home in Vicchio, the Bosco ai Frati convent, which preserves a crucifix of the Donatello school, in San Piero a Sieve and the Castello del Trebbio.
The Mugello region is not rich in art only. The nature is one of its principal attractions. Further to the beautiful woods and the natural oasis Gabbianello, the Bilancino lake, also called lake of Tuscany, is one of the most important destinations. During the good season it is possible to do water activities like sailing, wind-surfing, canoeing and fishing. The lake sides are equipped with sun chairs, sun umbrellas, pedalo and some also feature bars and restaurants. To be mentioned the Bagnomaria end the Bahia.
Golfers can find in the Mugello one of the most important golf courses in Tuscany: Poggio dei Medici Golf Club. It features 18 holes and it has been hosting for the last two years a stage of the European Challenge Tour.

To end with, not to forget the truffle. Very famous is the white truffle of Luco di Mugello.
All can be tasted in the many small trattorias or restaurants where you cannot miss the “tortelli Mugellani”, a very special receipt of pasta stuffed with potatoes.
