Etruscan Coast

It is the coast south of Livorno until the border with the province of Grosseto.

The Coast is characterized by the nature and its colors, the beautiful beaches and the history.

Every corner of the Terra degli Etruschi shows the traces of the Etruscan which make this territory fascinating and mysterious. The Costa degli Etruschi is also a territory rich in itineraries to discover by feet, riding and biking. A blue see to enjoy from the unspoiled beach or the rocks of Calafuria, close to the  pine wood perfumed by the maquis.

The costa degli Etruschi is south of Livorno, an open mind town as any other in Tuscany. The Aurelia will accompany you to discover Calafuria and Castiglioncello, with the colors of the pine woods and the sea. Beaches with white or dark sand, organized with bars and beach furnishing or free beaches, where only the sea and sun are your companions.

Or maybe you can decide to enjoy the shadow and go by feet or riding  in the pine wood from Vada to San Vincenzo, where the pines are the protagonists like the cypresses mentioned by Carducci.

Beautiful the sand dunes of Donoratico, today called Marina di Castagneto Carducci. They are the frame of wild beaches where splendid Patrician villas overlook the transparent sea.

The countryside is rich of cultivated fields, wine yards, hills, Etruscan memories and many small villages perfectly kept. The countryside and the hills bordering the coast belongs since centuries to the Della Gherardesca counts.

Campiglia Marittima, Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, Rosignano Marittimo, Bibbona, Colle Salvetti and Sassetta are villages and hamlets rich of history and traditions.

The Etruscan, important merchands and “good life” lovers, built on this coas Populonia, their only town built on the sea, laying on the Baratti harbour. The necropolis with its treasures shows the secrets and desires of such a mysterious population.

Not to forget the cuisine: sea food like the cacciucco, the wine which in this region has reached the excellence  with the Sassicaia, Ornellaia, Rosso di Bolgheri, Vermentino.

The Tirrhenyan sea shows most of the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago: Giglio, Elba, Montecristo, Capraia, Gorgona,  Giannutri and Pianosa).
